How to Beat the Demonhost in Warhammer 40K: Darktide
This article is over 3 years old and may contain outdated information.

As a Left 4 Dead-like horde co-op shooter, Warhammer 40K: Darktide features a huge number of adversaries to kill. From weaker mobs like Groaners to tougher bosses such as the Plague Ogryn and the horrifying Demonhost. As anticipated from something with “demon” on its name, this particular boss is one tough pony to handle. But here are some tips and tricks on how to beat a Demonhost (or Daemonhost, to be more accurate) in Warhammer 40K: Darktide.

How to Beat the Demonhost/Daemonhost in Warhammer 40K: Darktide

How to Beat the Demonhost in Warhammer 40K: Darktide

To anyone here who has played Left 4 Dead before, basically, Daemonhost works similarly to the Witch enemy. Or the Hag if you are a Back 4 Blood player:

  • If you hear whispering in your character’s head, that means a Daemonhost is nearby.
  • You’re very close to one if you can see some thick fog.
  • Once alerted by getting attacked (even accidentally) or someone getting too close, it will chase down the Reject that triggered it and attack furiously.
  • When a Reject is downed, the Daemonhost will grab them and suck their souls with a Force Choke-like telepathy power, instantly killing them.
  • It will always teleport away after killing half (two) of your party members.
  • Has the Unyielding stat, cannot be staggered.

With that in mind, the best thing to do is avoid any path that makes you hear whispers and see green fog. After all, there can even be multiple Daemonhosts spawn in one level. They seem to spawn more often in “Lights Out” missions, according to several Reddit users. However, Daemons are Daemons, and it is your duty as a Reject to clean Tertium of heresy in the name of the Emperor.

The general idea to beat a Daemonhost in Warhammer 40K: Darktide is to keep it occupied on one player. The easiest way to kill one is to aggro it with a Slab Shield Ogryn, then soak up all damage by using the Defensive Stance Special Block while other party members try to bash its skull in — just keep an eye on how much Corruption the Ogryn can handle. Psyker with Brain Bursting would be your number-one damage dealer in this scenario; Thunder Hammer is also very effective. More experience Zealot players, however, can try to dodge, duck, and weave against a Daemonhost’s flurries but your mileage will vary this way.

In the Warhammer 40K lore, a Daemonhost is a person who is forcefully turned into a host for a Daemon (duh) to walk the mortal plane since it cannot manifest itself outside of the Warp; either from possessing a Psyker’s mind or a Chaos Cultist’s sacrificial ritual. Nevertheless, sometimes the Imperial Inquisitors of Ordo Malleus might also attempt to do such a thing in order to interrogate a Daemon for information on Chaos or use the Daemonhost to fight other Daemons. Of course, as you can expect, it is an extra heretical act worthy to brand someone as a traitor to the Imperium of Man.
