Prime Video announced seven new cast members to join Rings of Power season 2, which includes a recast of orc leader Adar. The previous actor was Game of Thrones star Joseph Mawle, who has been replaced by Sam Hazeldine (Peaky Blinders). The newcomers include Gabriel Akuwudike (Ridley Road), Yasen Atour (The Witcher), Ben Daniels (The Crown), Nia Towle (Persuasion), Nicholas Woodeson (Rome), and Amelia Kenworthy for her first major production.

No word has been said on why the crew behind Rings of Power decided to recast the role of the villain from season 1. With that, there is no confirmation on who the new cast members will play when the fantasy epic returns to Prime Video. No date has been set for a return, but the show is making progress with this latest announcement.

While Sauron has been the big baddie in The Lord of the Rings, and Rings of Power, the decision to recast Adar does not affect his stance as one of the show’s primary villains. The finale revealed Sauron as Halbrand, played by Charlie Vickers (Palm Beach), after a bait-and-switch as it made it seem that The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) was the antagonist.

Between its over $400 million budget and the over $200 million spent on the rings, Amazon created the most expensive season of TV in history. The epic introduced new and familiar characters to fans and newcomers checking out the fantasy series. While it had some mixed reactions from hardcore fans about the handling of the source material and racists mad about Black elves and dwarves, it ended as a huge success for the streamer to green-light the next outing.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1 is available on Amazon Prime Video.
