Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery star Kate Hudson was once in a relationship with  Muse frontman Matt Bellamy. However, the two called it quits after a long engagement, causing them to live apart while co-parenting their son, Bing. Nearly a decade later, Kate fondly recalled their time together and how surviving their breakup helped her transform several aspects of herself she found wanting.

Kate Hudson’s Failed Relationship With Matt Bellamy Changed Her

While guest-appearing on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast on Tuesday, the actress reflected on that phase of her life. Referencing her latest movie, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the star explained how she, like everyone else, reached a point where she realized the importance of being honest with herself and “peeling back those layers.” Once she reached that point, things began falling into place. The icon recalled:

“I think that when things started changing for me is when I started taking far more accountability for my own shit. That was when it started to shift because that’s where I think you find your power. When you realize how imperfect we all are, when you’re okay with that. It’s very liberating”

For Kate Hudson, that moment of realization came after her breakup with Matt Bellamy; her “second failed baby-daddy relationship.” According to the star, she never wanted her relationship with Matt to end. But when it did, she had her moment of reckoning. Kate explained:

“That moment for me was like, okay, I have to figure this out. That was really hard for me because I didn’t want that to end. But I was like, Oh, this is an issue, I need to figure out what this is in my life, this pattern I keep repeating… and take accountability for it. That was the biggest change.”

They Found New Beginnings Under Those Layers

Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy began their relationship in 2010 and got engaged barely a year later. Shortly after, they welcomed their son, Bing, now eleven. In 2014, the former lovebirds hit the world with the news of their split. A source revealed at the time that the two were separated long before the announcement. Since then, they have continued co-parenting their son, building a more stable relationship as friends and co-parents.

Meanwhile, Kate Hudson has moved on in her love life, priming up to start a new family with her new faincé Danny Fujikawa, with whom she shares a 4-year-old daughter, Rani. The 43-year-old is also mom to 18-year-old son Ryder Robinson from her marriage to Chris Robinson.
