Developed by Bandai Namco and ILCA, One Piece Odyssey is a turn-based JRPG taking place in the popular manga and anime series world of One Piece, where you take control of Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates crew. Considering the series has been running for 26 years with 104 volumes of comics and more than 800 cartoon episodes, some of you might be wondering whether One Piece Odyssey will have spoilers or touch on very important plot points for the long-running manga series. Continue reading below for a bit more details on One Piece Odyssey‘s plot and spoiler potentials.
Note: This article will have minor spoilers, mentioning several places and/or arc names that you might have yet read or watched.
Does One Piece Odyssey Have Spoilers?
The short answer is yes, One Piece Odyssey will contain spoilers to the major plot of the original manga and anime. Although One Piece Odyssey‘s story is not canon to the main manga and anime, like all original side-stories that happen in other games and movies, the game still has tons of potential plot spoilers — especially for those of you who are still reading or watching through the whole series.
Why? Because while the game took place in an original place with an original story, One Piece Odyssey still features important locations and stories from the source material.
First of all, compared to how the Straw Hats look in the first half of the series, Luffy and his pirate pals have undergone a massive visual overhaul for important reasons. Then, in the game itself, Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates met a girl called Lim, who has a unique power to steal people’s power and scatter them all over Memoria, a mysterious realm within Waford Island. In Memoria, Luffy and his friend have to collect their powers again and go through the memories of their past adventures, reuniting with old friends and foes alike and arriving in familiar places, including:
- Arabasta Kingdom.
- Water 7.
- Enies Lobby.
- Marineford.
- And Dressrosa.
Obviously, if you are currently enjoying One Piece but still not familiar with those names, I suggest you stop looking around for more info on Odyssey (and even watching the trailer) and instead continue to plow through the main story first. It might ruin the satisfaction of learning how Luffy builds up his Straw Hat crew and seeing how each crew member grows.

Spoilers for the One Piece Odyssey Plot
In One Piece Odyssey, the Straw Hat Pirates were shipwrecked on a mysterious island called the Waford. Learning about the news, the Five Elders dispatch a “certain individual” to the island to deal with the Straw Hat permanently.
While exploring and looking for a way out of Waford, the Straw Hat Pirates meet a wandering explorer, Adio Suerte, and Lim, a girl who can steal people’s abilities and seal them in a cube. Lim then, for some reason, decided to steal the crew’s abilities and disperse the cube that holds them into pieces. Now the Straw Hats are forced to travel through Memoria, a weird realm created from their past adventures where they run into old friends and enemies.
Turns out, Adio is the Government agent and the last living descendant of an ancient tribe who lived on Waford, which itself is a sky island that has fallen. Long before he met with Luffy, Adio was hunted by the World Government for having knowledge of the ancient weapon known as the Divine Breath. He, along with another Waford tribe descendant named Pororoka, managed to board a ship. However, during their journey, Adio became ill and discovered that Pororoka was poisoning him and planned to sell him out to the World Government.
Adio quickly dove into the sea and escaped with his life — but he was found by the Marine ship that was hunting him and learned that Pororoka had been executed instead. Now Adio decided to use the Divine Breath and take revenge on the world that had caused his suffering.
Traveling to Waford in order to gain access to the Divine Breath hidden on the island, he met Lim, a priestess with a unique ability. He then forced her to remove her own memories and manipulate her, making Lim take away Straw Hat Pirates’ abilities and use them to defeat the Colossi that are protecting the Divine Breath.
Lim herself has a deep-seated mistrust of pirates because her parrot was killed by one, and she views Adio as a good friend. Even when she learns of his nefarious plot, Lim still believes that he was driven by loneliness and not because he’s evil. After helping Luffy and his friends through Memoria and learning about their pasts, she eventually grows to trust the Straw Hats as friends as well.
