Seems like I’ve done quite a number of Pokken Tournament articles leading up to the game’s release next month. What can I say? Gotta cover ’em all! The latest info brings Yveltal, Latios, Reshiram, and Cresselia to the fight as support Pokemon. Yveltal blasts opponents with Oblivion Wing, making them unable to use their Synergy gauge. Latios surrounds them with Luster Purge to slow their movement, and Reshiram’s Blue Flare launches straight forward and lowers enemies’ Attack. Finally, Cresselia has Lunar Dance to heal your HP and remove status effects, and also boost your Synergy gauge. The downside of such a powerful effect is that it can only be used once per round.

These four inclusions bring the total support roster to 30 (15 pairs). Supports are chosen before a match, then one of the two are picked at the start of a round. As for the playable Pokemon themselves, the current roster consists of 16 fighters, 14 not counting the clones (two versions of Mewtwo and two of Pikachu). That makes a total of 46 individual Pokemon that can appear in the arena.

Equipping your trainer in Pokken Tournament is much more extensive than I’d expected. In addition to the obligatory gender, hair, eye, and skin color, you can select an expression and, of course, outfits, accessories, and special effects too. The clothes in particular, are numerous, consisting of several different sets each containing a number of different pieces. Now imagine how much of the in-game Poke Gold you’ll need to unlock all of them. Oh, and did I mention: the hairstyles don’t seem to be gender-exclusive. Watch at the 10:30 mark and you’ll see the player apparently able to equip a female hair style onto his male trainer.

Lastly, I question whether those empty spaces on the fighter selection screen are unused character slots. It looks like just empty background, and various sources have claimed there is no DLC currently planned for the game. What do the rest of you think? Are there a few more secret characters hidden in Pokken Tournament somewhere? Come on, Haxorus! Give me Haxorus!
