Jinger Duggar has revealed shocking details about her childhood religious beliefs. Duggar shared the “harmful” Christian teachings she was exposed to when she was little. The American TV personality did not break through with those harmful Christian doctrines until 2017.
Why Was Jinger Duggar Terrified By Childhood Religious Beliefs?
In an exclusive Interview with People, 29-year-old Duggar explained how “fear was a huge part of my childhood.” Because of the Christian doctrines she grew up in, the reality star thought she only had “to wear only skirts and dresses to please God.” Music with drums, association with some friends, and going to some places were a big NO for the TLC‘s 19 Kids & Counting alum.
Duggar recalled that she was “terrified” when she was younger and her family went to play a sport called broomball because she thought it was not the will of God. Duggar had the fear of dying in a car accident if they went out because “she didn’t know if God wanted me to stay home and read my Bible instead.” The actress was crippled with fear for a long time until she regained her freedom.
Raised by her parents 57-year-old Jim Bob, and 56-year-old Michelle Duggar, in a strict Christian family, the Jinger Duggar was expected to follow all the doctrines. The Counting On former star’s parents were staunch followers of the Institute in Basic Life Principles, established by Bill Gothard in 1961.
The organization believed that women should be submissive to their husbands. Followers of the organization were expected to desist from “dancing, dating, and much of modern popular culture.” 88-year-old Gothard ceased to lead the ministry in 2014 after “more than 30 women accused him of harassment and molestation.”
The reality star believed that the minister’s teachings were very superstitious and “harmful.” According to Jinger Duggar, his teachings had “cult-like tendencies,” but she is now free from the doctrines.
How Was Jinger Duggar Able To Gain Her Freedom From Harmful Doctrines?
After Jinger Duggar walked away from the organization, she was able to gain her freedom from doctrines that put her life in constant fear; and although the TV personality is still a devout Christian, her understanding of how she should live her faith is different.
In helping others who are still bound by terrifying religious beliefs, Duggar has decided to release a new memoir, Becoming Free Indeed. The author hopes that her stories in the memoir will help others who are still in bondage and set them free.
