The X-Men: From the Ashes era is quickly approaching and Marvel is giving a peek behind the curtain at what awaits mutants in this new age. A short story set within one of Marvel’s Free Comic Book Day titles brings forth a villainous threat that awaits the X-Men. This new era story comes from the creative team behind the upcoming Uncanny X-Men relaunch and follows Jubilee on a quick trip. While out and about, the young hero comes across some villainous developments in her old home.

Within the pages of FCBD 2024: Blood Hunt/X-Men #1, Gail Simon and David Marquez offer a glimpse into the future. This X-Men: From the Ashes story finds Jubilee checking in on the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters. While the school did not serve too big of a purpose during the Krakoan era, it is still a nostalgic piece of X-Men history. However, it is a surprise as Jubilee finds the school repurposed as a prison for mutants known as Graymalkin.

Hard at work within this new prison is some of the villains the X-Men will surely face in this new age. This includes a Doctor Corina Ellis and her partner(?) Phillip. While Ellis appears to be a human, Phillip is clearly a mutant telepath. He is shown with pale skin and walking crutches. The short story shows Ellis making renovations to Professor X’s former office in the building. It also shows off some of the prisoners including mutants that could be Siryn and Blob. There is also a mysterious prisoner behind a door labeled “Inmate X”.

It looks like the team of Uncanny X-Men will have their hands full with this new threat. Of course, the new era is splitting the main X-Men team into three. Joining the Uncanny X-Men series is Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman’s X-Men. There is also Eve Ewing and Carmen Carnero’s Exceptional X-Men. Each series will take a team of mutants and follow their post-Krakoa journeys.
