Windows 98
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information.

Emulator technology has come very far in the past couple of years.  You used to barely be able to get anything to run on the most advanced PC’s but nowadays almost everyone has experienced PSx games running on phones.  Recently emulation technology has reached a new peak, with Copy.sh, an emulator that can run Windows 98 in your internet browser.

This recreation of Windows 98 appears to be fully functional offering not only the classic time wasting game of random chance, Minesweeper, but the ability to boot from CD, HDD, and Floppy Disc.  A clever individual might be able to get any classic game of their own devising to run within this OS within a browser.  The emulation also offers various ways to connect to the internet, all of which I was, unfortunately, unable to get working.

The curious feat of digital engineering known as Copy.sh took several thousand lines of Javascript and approximately four years to complete. In addition to being able to run Windows 98, Copy.sh is capable of emulating various ancient operating systems, including a version of DOS, as well as early Linux and Windows 1.

Do you think that Windows 98 was the ultimate version of the Windows operating system?  Did you never get the chance to experience the awfulness that was contained within ancient PC’s?  Do you honestly miss those old school dial up tones?  Let us know about it in the comments below.
