As was widely reported last year, China has dropped their universal ban on video game consoles. Previously, developers in China were limited to developing for PC and Smartphones, but no longer. Now we are finally starting to see the results of this change begin to surface in the form of games produced solely in China being published to the major consoles. Koi is the first PS4 title to carry this honor.
Created and published by Oasis Games, Koi is a quintessential indie title. You play a koi fish who is attempting to purify his pond by solving puzzles, and making flowers bloom. Along the way you will encounter other koi fish who will accompany you on your journey.

There is no set release date for the game, which is getting its first official showcase at the upcoming Game Developers Conference. The developers aim to release Koi sometime this year. Despite still being so fresh on the scene the game has already won several international awards, and it looks and sounds quite lovely. Hopefully Koi will pave a path for Chinese game development and will be the first of many wonderful titles released from studios within the country.
Do you have a strong, even irrational dislike of koi fish? Were you previously unaware of China’s universal console ban? Do you have no idea where or what China is? Please, leave us a comment about it.
