Nintendo and Illumination have been racking up on advertisements for the upcoming Super Mario Bros Movie, and the latest of these has just been released. A brand new commercial advertising Super Mario Bros Plumbing has been released, along with a working website full of references and Easter Eggs to the Super Mario Bros franchise.
Everything in the Super Mario Bros. Movie Commercial and Website
The Super Mario Bros Plumbing commercial is the newest ad for the Super Mario Bros Movie. The advertisement is stylized much like a 909s commercial and uses the main intro music for the Super Mario Bros Super Show.
The Super Mario Bros Super Show was the first time Mario and Luigi were voiced and characterized the duo as Italian plumbers from Brooklyn, New York, who enter the Mushroom Kingdom through a pipe drain. The commercial advertises a working number – 929-55-MARIO (909-556-2746) – which, when called, plays a recorded message from Charlie Day, the voice of Luigi in the Super Mario Bros. Movie. The number can also be texted to, which will link to a special form page.
The website features a variety of Easter Eggs and references to various sounds throughout the Super Mario Bros. series. Among these are the iconic power-up sound, the Mario Kart startup sound, and many others throughout the site, which is stylized in a very amateurish and incomplete way, likely on purpose.
The site features a career page asking for various positions (none of which can be applied to) and testimonials from various “customers,” including Foreman Spike.
Foreman Spike is the boss of the Wrecking Crew in the 1984 game of the same name, which features Mario and Luigi as demolition workers before becoming plumbers. Foreman Spike will be in the Super Mario Bros Movie and be voiced by stand-up comedian Sebastian Maniscalco.
The Super Mario Bros Movie will officially premiere in theaters on April 8, 2023, and is expected to come to Netflix later in the year.
