How to Go Into the Third-Person Mode in Minecraft

Look, itโ€™s me!

When thereโ€™s an infinite world to explore, it makes sense that youโ€™d want to see it from all angles. Minecraft is known for its randomized worlds, and navigating them is a bit easier when you can step out of the first-person perspective. Though some enjoy Mojangโ€˜s world in first-person, others like to dip into third-person now and then. For some, third-person mode can make tricky jumping sections easier, making it less likely that youโ€™ll accidentally fling yourself into lava. If youโ€™re into PvP, third-person can also make it much easier to keep an eye on your enemies. Hereโ€™s how to go into third-person mode in Minecraft.

Minecraft Third-Person Mode Guide

Whereas first-person view allows you to look through your characterโ€™s eyes, third-person view provides an over-the-shoulder perspective, allowing you to see your characterโ€™s body. Aside from the mechanical benefits, it can also just be nice to see your character running around the world. Thatโ€™s particularly true if you want to get a better look at the Diamond Armor or Enchanting Table you just worked so hard for. Enabling the third-person camera mode is easy, but every platform has a different way of doing it. The list below will walk you through every method of entering third-person mode:

PC/MacOS

  • Press F5/C on your keyboard

Minecraft PE

  • Pause the game and head to Settings. From here, select โ€œVideo Buttonโ€ and then change the option โ€œCamera Perspective.โ€

PlayStation 3

  • Press Left Stick down

PlayStation 4

  • Press Left Stick down

Xbox 360

  • Press Left Stick down

Xbox One

  • Press Left Stick down

Windows 10

  • Press F5/C on your keyboard

Nintendo Switch

  • Use Left Joycon Stick and move it down

Education Edition

  • Press F5/C on your keyboard

If you press F5/C once, you will see the back of the player, while pressing F5/C again displays the front. If you need to go back to the first-person view, just press F5/C/C again. Thatโ€™s all there is to entering into third-person mode in Minecraft. Now youโ€™re ready to get some stylish screenshots.
