Activision begins to DMCA Fortnite Creative content, according to Twitter Post by Jake Lucky. Call of Duty-inspired maps such as FPS, Zombies, and Rust will be banned on Fortnite. Creators were informed of the DMCA policy and removed the maps.
Fortnite’s Creative 2.0 mode gave players the capacity to take control and build impressive maps through the Unreal Editor.
However, some of the creations are facing takedown from other publishers. A major game publisher Activision, is beginning to DMCA and is pushing for the removal of content related to Call of Duty.
Activision indicated that any Fortnite creations directly related to Call of Duty are violating key policies. Creators will likely face bans themselves.
As Activision begins to DMCA Fortnite Creative 2.0 Content, Blizzard has the power to pull down any Fortnite map even when the creators do not intend to publish the maps. Currently, any maps copying ideas from Call of Duty are facing DCMA takedown.
Will Call of Duty’s DMCA Takedown Hurt Fortnite Creative 2.0?
The reactions from the Fortnite Creative community have varied over the decision by Activision to remove any Call of Duty content. Some players termed the decision as absurd while others recognize the need for removing content that violates the DMCA policies.
Irrespective of recognizing the DCMA policies, players are unhappy that they cannot explore zombie maps. Fortnite’s Creative 2.0 editor gives players freedom, but it is risky to use content from other games.
Activision’s DMCA policy on Call of Duty content in Fortnite is not a move unique to the publisher. Creators are concerned that other game publishers will follow Activision in removing their content from the Unreal Editor.
