For years, The Big Bang Theory dominated network TV, and now it is set for another go for streaming as a spinoff is in the works at Max, the upcoming streaming service that combines HBO Max and Discovery+. Warner Bros. Discovery has unveiled loads of details about its new streaming venture, including new projects like this one, which will be handled by the sitcom’s creator Chuck Lorre.
Plot details are under wraps. The Big Bang Theory spinoff sounds to be ways away as Lorre is busy with another series, How to Be a Bookie, starring Sebastian Maniscalco (Green Book). This newly announced series will be the second spinoff as Young Sheldon goes on for its sixth season. The prequel follows a young Sheldon, played by Iain Armitage, giving fans a look at Sheldon (originally played by Jim Parsons) when he was a young boy.
Max will be home to a new spinoff of The Big Bang Theory
The original sitcom dominated TV for years. Running from 2007-2019 for 280 episodes, it became a flagship series that launched plenty of careers for its stars like Parsons and Kaley Cuoco. During its run, it had 55 Emmy nominations and ten wins. Among those winning awards, a prize was included for its editing and multiple wins for Parsons’ leading performance.
By having a prequel under its belt, it is unknown what to expect from another spinoff of The Big Bang Theory. Multiple of its stars has gone off to get busy in Hollywood. By having an ensemble, beloved cast, it can do plenty with it, like prequels or following where characters are at since the finale of the series.
The news came in when WBD unveiled Max. The streaming service is aiming to balance reality TV and other content associated with Discovery while maintaining the higher “prestige” television HBO has done for decades. Some of its higher-profile slate includes The Big Bang Theory spinoff, The Penguin, House of the Dragon season 2, more Game of Thrones spinoffs, and the upcoming rebooted DCU, which will include live-action and animated TV shows, including its big-screen movies.
