Want to know how to tame a Megatherium in Ark: Survival Evolved? The islands are full of creatures, and one of them will always surpass you in definite activities. For example, you will never be able to match Anglerfish in farming Silica Pearls, but if you’re heading out to hunt bugs, you won’t find a better companion than Megatherium. This big boy hates insects and perfectly destroys them, so we will tell you how to tame a Megatherium in Ark: Survival Evolved.
Before you can tame Megatherium, you will have to find this creature. Megatherium is a calm creature that prefers forest locations such as Redwood or Tundras. But you can only meet him on six of the twelve game maps: Island, Center, Extinction, Valguero, Scorched Earth, and Ragnarok.
Once you find Megatherium, you should build some stone pillars and lure him between these. These creatures are not very attentive and agile. So they will get stuck, and you can tame them without fear of taking damage. But just in case, you should have a fast mount nearby, as Megatherium can run fast if he doesn’t like you. But most importantly, in no case do not use an insect mount. Megatherium hates insects and will try to kill them until the enemy dies. However, he will ignore your attempts to tame him.
Once a Megatherium is trapped, you have to take a couple of shots from the tranquilizer or beat him until he fainted and after, move the saddle and food to his inventory:
- Superior Kibble
- Giant Bee Honey
- Raw Mutton
- Raw Prime Meat
- Cooked Lamb Chop
- Cooked Prime Meat
- Raw meat
- Cooked Prime Fish Meat
- Mejoberry
- Cooked Meat
- Berries
- Raw Fish Meat
- Cooked Fish Meat
In our list, we have placed food in order from most to least effective for taming Megatherium. So you only need 4 Superior Kibbles or as many as 126 Cooked Fish Meat to tame the first level Megatherium. At the same time, you will need to use 16 Superior Kibble or 613 Cooked Fish Meat to tame a level 150 Megatherium. We also recommend using Narcoberry and Narcotic to subdue the creature and tame it faster and easier.
Once you have tamed the Megatherium, you should craft a matching saddle for it using the following materials:
- Hide x325
- Fiber x130
- Cementing Paste x100
- Metal Ingot x55
After that, you can saddle this big boy and go hunting. As we said at the beginning, Megatherium is the best insect hunter. Thanks to his skills, he activates the Insect Killer ability after killing at least one insect. With this skill, all insects, including Meganeura, Giant Bee, Titanomyrma, Mantis, Araneo, Arthropleura, Pulmonoscorpius, or Trilobite, take nearly 4x damage. At the same time, Megatherium (besides the fact that this creature has a lot of health and armor) takes 75% less damage from insects, leaving them not even the slightest chance of winning. And on top of that, Megatherium is a master at a butchering insects, as you can get up to 200 Chitin and many other materials like Thatch and Cactus Sap from a single enemy.
