Incoming message from General Pepper:

Hello and welcome back to Speedrun Fast. Has everyone picked up their copy of Star Fox Zero yet? It’s been quite a while since Fox and crew had a game release, so to celebrate the return of everyone’s favorite space mercenaries, we’re doing a speedrun of Star Fox Assault for the Gamecube. This game has a lot in common with one of the franchise’s best entries, Star Fox 64, with plenty of Arwing and landmaster action. But it also includes on-foot segments and even a couple missions where Fox rides on the wing of another ship. Today, you’ll see not only a 100% run on the highest difficulty but also a tutorial video with tips and explanations on how to run the game yourself. And now, some friendly gameplay advice from my good friend, Peppy Hare.

“Don’t mess up that Arwing!”

This Star Fox Assault speedrun clocks in at around an hour and twenty minutes. On the bronze difficulty at any % completion, runs typically last somewhere between 40 and 50 minutes, the main time difference being the collection of certain items, enemy power, and teammate dialogue in 100%. But however you choose to play, there’s just something immensely satisfying about speeding through enemy lines in the Arwing.

This tutorial video demonstrates the most basic run for Star Fox Assault, the Bronze any % method. Geo Revolution highlights every item to pick up, every cutscene skip opportunity, and how to handle the controls to optimize the run. One of the most prominent tricks is the continuous boost seen in the very first stage.

Only one game was released between Star Fox Assault and Star Fox Zero, and that was Star Fox Command on the Nintendo DS, which featured multiple endings. The new game has been a long time coming, and now that it’s here, there’s really only one thing to be said:

“Do a barrel roll!”
