A statement from an AMD investor could hint at the existence of three new consoles.
AMD components are used by the three big console manufacturers. This statement could be referencing the Nintendo NX, the Playstation Neo, and the New Xbox One. AMD CEO Lisa Su recently mentioned three “design wins” that match up with this news.
Rumours have been circulating for months about Nintendo’s next console – codenamed NX – and how it will bring the big N back into the spotlight. We don’t have any details but a reveal is expected at E3 this year, with a release later in 2016. Playstation is also gearing up for a new console launch if rumours are to be believed. Documents leaked of a Playstation 4 Neo – a more powerful version of the existing console. The device will allow games to play in a 4K resolution. Games will also receive a boost in graphics and performance when playing on the new console, though developers are not allowed to add any new features.
Xbox is also reportedly looking at making a new version of the Xbox One. This half step will be more powerful and will take full advantage of the power of Windows 10.
If AMD is to be believed, we will see the launch of at least one of these devices before the end of 2016. This could upend the previously recognized pattern of releasing a new console every five or so years. We likely won’t get any news until E3, but 2016 may bring us a slew of new console announcements and shiny new games to play on them.
