If a game wants to be considered a gacha game, there are some staples it needs to have. A colorful cast of characters, a lot of currencies, and items that’ll let you level up different things. Today we’ll focus on the latter for Honkai Star Rail. Anyone from Genshin Impact might’ve gotten confused when they saw Light Cones. Even if they were announced during the Special Program, people were unsure about what they would do. Now that we know they function as weapons, we’ll tell you how to level up your Light Cones in Honkai Star Rail.

You might’ve noticed that when playing, you’ll come across different types of currencies and items. Some are used to Warp for certain characters, others to use in World Shops, and others to level up characters and Light Cones in Honkai Star Rail. For Light Cones, you’ll have to collect some specific things to get them up to your level. These are the items you’ll need:
- Sparse Aether
- Condensed Aether
- Refined Aether
You’ll need these primarily to level up your Light Cones in Honkai Star Rail. Yet, once you reach certain levels, you’ll need to ascend them to reach even higher levels on them. The process is similar to Genshin Impact’s weapon system, so it shouldn’t be hard if you have played this game in the past. Another way to level them up is using Light Cones you don’t want as materials. When you reach the “Enhance” screen, select your Aether or Light Cones to level up what you have equipped.
How to Get Sparse, Condensed, and Refined Aether in Honkai Star Rail
To get Aether, which is the item you’ll need to level up Light Cones, there are several activities you can take part in to farm this material. Here’s a list of the ones you can do:
- Calexes
- Daily Assignments
Doing these activities will give you a fair amount of Aether that you can use to level up your Light Cones. Yet, using only it for the Light Cones you want to level would be best. Usually, we recommend saving these items for 4-star ones or better. While leveling 3-star Light Cones isn’t bad, you might get some better ones as you play, and you’ll be wasting all that experience quickly. Thankfully, the game has been quite generous at giving these items, and there’s no shortage of activities to do.
