You’ve seen the YouTube videos haven’t you? Some unsuspecting person putting on the virtual reality visor that is the Oculus Rift and then getting immersed in an experience where the individual feels like they’re elsewhere. Maybe it’s a horror experience with hordes of zombies closing in or maybe it’s just something as simple as a rock climbing experience. People in the videos duck and dodge and gasp as their mind tries to comprehend what it’s experiencing. The world of virtual reality is as close as it’s ever been to being an experience one can have in the comfort of their own home with the Oculus Rift releasing this Friday, May 7th.

Oculus Rift Demo

As part of the Intel Experience, 48 Best Buys are going to be selling the Oculus Rift with a catch…they have extremely limited quantities. In the event you haven’t been following the news, there was quite a big snafu with the pre-orders for the Oculus Rift and one that Oculus is still catching up on. Initially, customers had thought they would receive their new VR headset not long from the March 28th release date but unfortunately, that turned into early to mid-May. The VR headset will also be available online from Microsoft and Amazon starting at 9 pm PST on March 6th, but again in extremely limited quantities.

If you’re anxious to see what all the fuss is about for yourself, you can actually schedule your own personal demo at select Best Buy stores. According to the recent Oculus Rift blog post, you’ll be able to experience the following during a demo,

We’ll have a variety of experiences that everyone can enjoy, including VR vignettes with Oculus Dreamdeck. Ultimate thrill seekers will be able to experience what it’s like rock climbing on the side of a cliff with The Climb, and in the coming weeks, you’ll be able to explore the beautiful alien world of Farlands.
