The map is an essential feature in Jedi Survivor. It lets you know where discovered items lie, where your destination is, and a general outlook of the terrain you’re facing on the planet. While it isn’t too detailed, the map is pretty substantial. Just how big is the map in Jedi Survivor? Players are trying to construct interactive maps as the post-release days travel on so that those having trouble with navigation and item discovery can have an easier road. Is the map in Survivor bigger than the one in the last game, Fallen Order? In this article, we’ll explain the map size and just what you’re working with throughout the game.
What Makes Up The Total Map Size?
Jedi Fallen Order was a tall order (pun intended) to follow up on. The game was incredible, everything from the map to the way combat worked was intuitive and very true to the nature of Star Wars. While Fallen Order was a fantastic title for Star Wars fans, it did have one pretty high-standing flaw: the map size. The maps weren’t that big at all. Not many places to explore, as can be cited from the file size and the map size by anyone who’s ever enjoyed Fallen Order. The file size was surprisingly small, and the biomes you could explore as Cal were limited.
However, once Star Wars Jedi Survivor was announced, fans gathered and theorized concerning what the updated second attempt at a game would look like. With Survivor, a new set of opportunities presented itself to the development team for biomes, maps, collectibles, and layouts for players to explore. A fresh start with a clean slate on a totally different game. As the game progress continued, much conjecture was made about the file size concerning Survivor. Already, even before the game came out recently, fans had a great new hope for the planet and map sizes in Survivor.
What Did The Development Team Change Between Games?
During pre-release hype, the game director, Stig Asmussen, discussed what changes would be made between Fallen Order and Survivor. He also mentioned what the team had learned, citing how the sequel could improve upon what the first game initially started. Asmussen mentioned that the incorporation of next-gen consoles was a huge factor that came into play during developmental planning. New consoles can handle much more than those with Fallen Order. With new hardware, the team has more flexibility for assets, loading times, and, most importantly, map size. As you know, the game is an open world across the planets. So whatever maps the development team wanted to implement had to be within specific parameters of the console’s limitations.
“We learned quickly that we could take advantage of the faster processors, larger/faster memory, better loading times, etc., to create larger maps with more detail, greater density, broader enemy/NPC variety, and overall fidelity.”
How Big Is the Map in Jedi Survivor?
Based on what we understand from development, we can almost confirm what the franchise fans believe already. The Jedi Survivor map is far bigger than that of Fallen Order. This is not due to anything but the limitations of previous-gen consoles. As for how big the map is, all we have confirmed are reasonings from the players. We know it’s at least the size of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Planet sizes, maps for individual areas, and the number of collectibles are all comparatively larger. The game file size is the largest evidence of this, requiring 155 GB to install digitally on any console or PC.
So far, the only fully interactive map that players can access for Jedi Survivor is an interactive map of Coruscant. It shows every important location and collectible in the area. Using it, you can locate secret chests, essences, stims, treasures, bosses, and databanks. If you’re having some trouble on Coruscant, we recommend this map for navigation. Otherwise, players will need to discover the entire map on their own to estimate a size comparison. As for an official size comparison between Survivor and Fallen Order, or any other game for that matter, no such model exists. However, if we do come across one or create one ourselves, we’ll update this article to let you know. So stay tuned!
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is available now for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
