Yamiyo Shrine is a landmark in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, where you learn the gameplay tutorial, “Combat Training: Throwing.” In your journey, you’ll often encounter enemy targets that might be just out of your melee attack reach. Perhaps they’re holding the high ground as they barrage you with projectiles. Knowing how to retaliate against these ranged opponents by throwing objects back can help at such moments. You might already know how to hurl your weapons, but we’ll go over how to “Throw Material” in Tears of the Kingdom.
How To Complete Combat Training: Throwing
To complete “Combat Training: Throwing” in Yamiyo Shrine in Tears of the Kingdom, you first must understand the controls involved. After you enter the Shrine, the “Throw Material” tutorial pop-up window will appear on-screen, instructing you to:
- Hold the R trigger to get ready.
- Hold D-pad Up to select the material you’ll use as a projectile.
Looking around the chamber, you’ll notice several Fire Fruit trees planted conveniently to your left and right. Grab these to continue “Combat Training: Throwing” and complete the Shrine.
After you’ve collected a handful, hold R, press Up on the D-pad, and select the Fire Fruit in your Material hotbar. Once the fruit has been chosen, release your D-pad input but avoid letting go of R. On-screen, Link will hold the Fire Fruit in the palm of his hand, ready to hurl it at his target. Approaching the central raised platform, take aim and hit the Construct firing projectiles at you. Time will stop, and you’ll be met with a “Well done” message.
However, the challenge of Yamiyo Shrine in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom isn’t over yet. Your next objective is to throw the fruit at the Construct, striking it while it moves from side to side. Whether you’re aiming with your Joy-Cons or a Pro Controller, hitting a moving target with throwables can be somewhat difficult. If you’re struggling, we recommend standing in place and waiting for the Construct to move into your reticule. Positioning yourself close to the enemy’s elevated walkway is also helpful.
Once the Construct has been defeated, head into the innermost chamber and claim your Light of Blessing. Remember to grab any remaining Fire Fruit in the main chamber before opening the Treasure Chest. The fruit could come in handy later when dealing with ranged enemies in the future.
Where Is the Yamiyo Shrine Location
For reference, the Yamiyo Shrine sits near the northeastern corner of Hyrule Field, southeast of Hyrule Castle. If you follow the main road southeast of Hyrule Cathedral, you’ll eventually reach the Romani Plains. Check the area north of where the three paths intersect, and you’ll find the Yamiyo Shrine in Tears of the Kingdom.
