What’s the only thing scarier than Ganon? Well, Phantom Ganon, of course. This mysterious boss can be found in multiple locations across Tears of the Kingdom, and defeating him is no small feat. Gloom is a toxic goop covering the open world and the Depths underground area; occasionally, a set of hands will emerge from it and attack Link. These creepy crawlers are crucial to finding Phantom Ganon, but beating him is a different beast entirely. This guide will show you how to defeat Phantom Ganon in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

The key to fighting Phantom Ganon is finding him first. Look for areas near Chasms and piles of Gloom. You will then find Gloom Hands that will attack you. If you manage to destroy them all, Phantom Ganon will spawn. This boss can also appear during various sidequests that take place underground. When you’re face to face with Phantom Ganon, you must be prepared for a tough fight. We recommend having at least 8 Hearts and some Gloom restoration and defense-increasing food. Recipes for this kind of food is Steamed Meat, which is one piece of meat, and Sundelion. The fight can begin once you have the Hearts and the right food.

Phantom Ganon is made out of Gloom and spreads it with every step and attack he performs. If you have a good bow, we recommend running as far back as possible and lighting him up with Fused arrows. Bomb flowers are also effective as long as you maintain your distance. If you’re out of arrows or if he gets close, take out your sword and prepare for a fight.

Phantom Ganon has a handful of attacks up close that are easy to dodge or parry. He will attack with a Gloom Sword, a powerful blade that significantly and permanently damages your Hearts. When you see him walk up to you and rear his arm back, prepare to dodge backward, as he will use a large horizontal swing that will hit you if you dodge left or right incorrectly.

Phantom Ganon will start using a charge attack after whittling him down with careful arrow use and dodging his standard attack. When he backs up and hunches forward, run to the left or right unless you are supremely confident in your ability to parry. This attack can beat you in one shot, so be careful. Thankfully, this is the only real dangerous attack he tries to pull off. Once familiar with the pattern, you should make short work of Phantom Ganon.

Now that you know how to defeat Phantom Ganon in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, venture into the Depths and take him out to clear large swathes of Gloom and save Hyrule once and for all. Stay tuned right here at The Nerd Stash for any and all things Tears of the Kingdom.
