Are you looking to complete the quest “Reede’s Secret” in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? This side quest has you uncovering small-town secrets in Hateno Village. You’ll have to use some creative problem-solving to get behind a locked door and discover what the town’s mayor is hiding with some of the all-new abilities included in Tears of the Kingdom. It’s not a hard quest to come across in the game, but the solution can be a little tricky to figure out. If you’re having trouble completing “Reede’s Secret,” then this guide is for you.
In order to start “Reede’s Secret,” travel to Hateno Village. The closest fast travel point is Zanmik Shrine, but you can also use the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab, if you have it unlocked, or the Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower to the north. Once you’ve reached Hateno Village, you need to find Clavia, Mayor Reede’s wife. She can normally be found either in Zelda’s home south of Firly Pond or in her own home, which is just past the dye shop on a small hill.
Talk to Clavia, and she’ll explain that she’s worried about her husband because he spends all night locked in the shed next to their house. She wants you to sneak in and find out what he’s up to but warns you that you can only enter at midday when Reede isn’t there. Agree to help her out, and you’ll officially begin the quest “Reede’s Secret.”
How to Complete “Reede’s Secret” in Tears of the Kingdom
To complete the quest, first check out the small shed next to the mayor’s house. Getting into the shed is a bit of a riddle since you can’t unlock the door, and there aren’t any windows to climb through. The answer lies in the wells dotted around Hateno Village. There are two entrances to the well system you can use, but the Hateno Village North Well is closest to the shed. You’ll need to wait at a fire until noon before starting the quest, or bring materials for a fire into the well, will you?
Be sure to mark Reede’s shed for future reference before making your way to the North Well. Jump down it, and you’ll land in a pond with a few Glowing Cave Fish. To the west, you’ll see a passage blocked by two large boulders. Move them out of the way with Ultrahand and continue onward, following the cave system until you’re directly under Reede’s shed and the pin you dropped earlier. It’s important that you wait until noon before undertaking this next part, or Reede will catch you and kick you out, so make sure your timing is right.
Once you’re directly under Reede’s shed, use Ascend on the cave ceiling above you. If you’re in the right place, you’ll rise up into a small room with a table and a book. If you don’t get it right on the first try, don’t be afraid to cancel Ascend and reposition yourself before trying again. After popping up into the shed, read the diary on the table to discover that Mayor Reede is trying to come up with a new variety of pumpkin.
Exit the shed and make your way back to Clavia. Explain what you’ve found, and she’ll reward you with Hylian Tomatoes x10, officially marking “Reede’s Secret” complete.
