Are you looking to find all the unique horses in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? While the newest Zelda release offers a variety of wild horses, a handful of horses are a little harder to find. Four unique horses in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom can only be found in certain areas or by completing certain quests. Finding these horses will take you from one end of Hyrule to the other, so if you’re looking to collect all of the unique horses in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, this guide is for you.
1. Zelda’s Golden Horse
If you’re looking to track down Princess Zelda’s very own golden horse in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, head to Snowfield Stable, northwest of the Gazette. Snowfield Stable can be found near Orochium Shrine on the Tabantha Tundra, so be sure to pack some cold-resistant gear, food, or elixirs.
After arriving at Snowfield Stable, talk to Penn, who will tell you that rumors of a golden horse that once belonged to Princess Zelda herself has been circulating. Offer to track down the horse, and you’ll receive the quest “Zelda’s Golden Horse.” The golden horse itself can be found on the tundra north of Snowfield Stable. We recommend searching for it during the day since its golden coat stands out against the snow better.
Once you’ve found the golden horse, crouch and approach it. If you’ve got stealthy gear, food, or elixirs, we recommend using them because if you spook the horse, it will run off, and you’ll have to track it down again. After you get close enough to the golden horse, mount it by pressing A and then spam L until it calms down. With the horse tamed, ride it back to Snowfield Stable and talk to Harlow, the stablehand. She’ll ask you to keep it, and just like that, Zelda’s Golden Horse is yours! It has pretty good stats, with four stars in strength and speed, three in stamina, and two in pull, making it a decent choice for early-game players, especially.
2. The Giant White Stallion
Head to Highland Stable in southern Faron to find the biggest horse in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. Once you arrive at the stable, Padok, the stable manager, will tell you that a giant white stallion can be found near the Lake of the Horse God southeast of Highland Stable. Breath of the Wild players might remember this location as the home of Malanya the Horse God, but he’s moved to East Akkala Stable.
To get to the Lake of the Horse God, take the road southwest out of Highland Stable and turn left at the intersection. Follow the road until you come to Horse God Bridge. Right after you cross the bridge, you’ll see a pair of travelers and their horses to your left. Talk to them, and they’ll reveal that a giant white stallion was spotted just down the road, so you’re on the right track. Continue following the road until it ends, and you’ll see the Giant White Stallion chilling in a secluded little area.
If you want to tame this giant beast successfully, we recommend bringing stealth- and stamina-boosting items. It’s hard for the horse to run away since it mostly stays in its pasture area, but sneaking up on it is still recommended. Once you actually get on its back, be prepared to spam L and eat as many stamina-boosting meals as you can since taming this beast will require more stamina than you’ve got. After you’ve calmed it down, ride the Giant White Stallion back to Highland Stable, where you can register it to get an exclusive saddle and bridle.
3. Spot
If you’re looking for a horse with one of the most unique coats in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, head to Lookout Landing. Talk to Lester near the southern gate, and he’ll explain that his horse, Spot, has escaped. He says Spot probably didn’t get too far, but he can’t go out and look for the horse himself. Offer to help him out, and you’ll get the “Spotting Spot” quest.
You can go out to search the area around Lookout Landing on foot, but a much quicker way involves the nearby Skyview Tower. Launch yourself out of Lookout Landing Skyview Tower, and you’ll be able to see the fields all around the settlement. You’re looking for a white horse with black spots; use the Purah Pad’s scope if you need a better view. Once you’ve found the right horse, glide down to tame it and bring it back to Lester, who will give you a swift carrot in reward and ask if you’d like to keep Spot for yourself. Talk to Lester again while mounted to agree, and you’ll be able to register Spot for yourself.
4. Epona
If you’re a classic Zelda fan, you’ll be glad to hear that Epona, Link’s faithful equine friend, is available in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. However, unlike the other horses on this list, she can only be acquired by scanning an amiibo. If you want to unlock Epona, have either the Super Smash Bros. Link or Twilight Princess Link amiibo on hand. Once you’ve successfully scanned her in, register Epona at a stable to keep her. You’ll find that Epona’s got excellent stats, as well, with four stars in speed, stamina, and strength but, unfortunately, nothing in pull. If you want to pull anything, you’ll need to use a different horse, but you can still ride Epona through Hyrule to relive all of your nostalgia.
