A Shadow Mewtwo can now show up in five-star Shadow Raids for Pokemon Go; what are the best counters for it? Mewtwo is one of the most recognizable Legendaries from the mainline games and is often described as one of the most powerful Pokémon, making it difficult for players to counter, especially those who aren’t experts with past Pokémon titles. This raid guide will inform you of its weaknesses, and what the best Shadow Mewtwo Raid counters are in Pokemon Go.

Mewtwo is the genetic clone of the original Mew, first appearing in the original Pokemon Red and Blue. The shadow variant of Mewtwo returns to Pokemon Go with The Rising Shadows Event. You can capture a Shiny Shadow Mewtwo during the event, which will last until May 28.

When Mewtwo was first introduced, Mewtwo’s Psychic typing was overpowered. Most other Pokémon types couldn’t measure up to the strength of Psychics.

However, that changed in the following generations when Pscyhic-type weaknesses and counters were more prevalent. Dark types were introduced in Generation II, becoming a perfect counter to Psychics like Mewtwo. Ghost and Bug Pokémon became stronger counters for Psychic Pokemon in the proceeding games. All three types are excellent raid counters to Shadow Mewtwo in Pokemon Go.

Mewtwo also has two Mega Forms that give it an extra boost in stats. Mega Mewtwo is formidable to face off against in potential raids in Pokemon Go, and if you ever encounter one in the mobile title, bring a Ghost Pokémon.

Gyms will host Shadow Raids during The Rising Shadows Event, with Shadow Mewtwo potentially appearing in five-star Shadow Raids. Shadow Mewtwo’s most deadly moves it could have on hand are Psycho Cut and Psychic. The Legendary can also know non-psychic attacks like Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt, and Flamethrower.

Mewtwo’s biggest weakness in Pokemon Go will be Pokémon with Ghost, Bug, and Dark attacks. The best moves to use are Crunch, Snarl, Dark Pulse, Shadow Claw, Shadow Ball, and X-Scissors. Ghosts and Dark Pokémon have the best resistance to psychic-type moves, so it’s best to have a Ghost or Dark-type to face Shadow Mewtwo to negate most of its attacks.

Gengar is one of the best Ghost types in the game and is the best to use against Mewtwo. Gengar has overall great stats in Go and can learn attacks like Shadow Ball, which will be very effective against Mewtwo. The Ghost Pokémon can also Mega-evolve, transforming into the perfect counter to Mewtwo’s Mega-evolution.

Other great Pokemon to counter Mewtwo in Pokemon Go are Banette and Houndoom. Banette should know Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball, whereas Houndoom should know Snarl and Foul Play.

Master Ball is introduced to Pokemon Go with the new event and is the best ball to capture Shadow Mewtwo.
