The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom allows players to collect many different material items and use them to upgrade armor and tools or even cook meals. Opal is a valuable ore that players can use to upgrade, fuse some extra attack power, and also buy and sell. Most materials, if not all, are really important to make sure players always have on hand. Opal can be used for many things that players will probably want to get their hands on. This guide will teach players all about Opal, where to find it, and how to use it in Tears of the Kingdom.

Similar to Zonaite, Opal in Tears of the Kingdom can be found by mining ore deposits and rare ore deposits. To mine them, players will need to simply use a mining tool and hit the Ore Deposits. If players don’t feel like mining and are far enough in the game, they can purchase Opal from Kairo at the Foothill Stable. Additionally, the Kochi Dye Shop uses Opal as a material for making Light Yellow Dye.

Opal can be used as a material to upgrade armor; these can be made at the Great Fairy Fountain. Another armor set that requires Opal is the Zora set, which actually needs a total of fifteen Opals to be crafted. It will also need Lizalfos Tails as well to be upgraded.

Something a bit fancier is players will need forty-nine Opals to purchase some Opal Earrings. Hero of Winds armor set will also need different amounts of Opal to complete each of the different tier sets. For reference, below is a list of the required amounts from the wiki page:

  • Total for Opal Earrings: 49 (5, 8, 16, 20)
  • Total for Hero of Winds Set: 57 (1, 3, 5, 10) x3
  • Total for Zora Set: 45 (0, 0, 0, 15) x3

The main reason to collect Opals in Tears of the Kingdom will be to upgrade and make armor that helps Link take less damage while in combat. The Opal Earrings will also increase Link’s swim speed and can even be upgraded after purchase. As noted above, fusing an Opal to a weapon is also possible.

If a player wants to upgrade their armor with Opal, they can do so at the Great Fairy Fountain in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. That’s everything to know about Opal, where to find it, and what to use it for.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available on Nintendo Switch.
