Somehow Ganondorf returned and is causing untold mayhem in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom game; who is the new voice actor for this well-known villain? While the game doesn’t feature a full voice-over like other big-budgeted games, several key characters have voices in critical cutscenes. Zelda and Ganondorf have the most vital performances in Tears of the Kingdom. Both characters represent the good and evil of Hyrule. Ganondorf, or Ganon as he is sometimes referred to, didn’t have a voice in Breath of the Wild. But he is given a prolific voice actor for Tears of the Kingdom as he has more of a physical presence.

Ganondorf’s Voice Actor in Tears of the Kingdom

I just got the go-ahead from Nintendo, so I can FINALLY announce my absolute pleasure to be voicing Ganondorf in the Legend of #Zelda : #TearsoftheKingdom.

An immense honor that I have thrown myself into doing justice. pic.twitter.com/GDtoWRUHDx

Whereas Ganon was more of an enigmatic cloud of pure evil in Breath of the Wild, he has more of a physical presence in Tears of the Kingdom. His mummified body appears in the game’s opening act, and he constantly shows up in flashbacks scenes with Memory Tears. He returns as the game’s main villain, acting as the driving force for the game.

For high profile villain, Nintendo decided to give Link’s archnemesis a high-profile voice actor. The voice actor for Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom game is none other than Matthew Mercer. Fans speculated that Mercer was voicing the villain based on early trailers for the game. However, the actor wouldn’t confirm his involvement with the title until a month before the release date.

Ganondorf’s Voice Actor’s Other Work

Mercer is a very in-demand actor and voice actor. He has had big roles in some of the most popular animes and games. He has huge roles in shows like Attack on Titan, Fate/Zero, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, One Piece, and Dragon Ball Super.

Mercer’s most well-known video game characters are Chrom in Fire Emblem and Cole Cassidy in Overwatch. Ganondorf is Matthew Mercer’s most recent high-profile voice work in a video game.

However, the actor is more renowned for being the Dungeon Master for the Dungeons & Dragons web series Critical Role. He helped create Critical Role with his fellow voice-acting friends in 2015. The series has since become a huge hit, leading to an animated series on Amazon. He currently serves as the CCO of Critical Role Productions.
