Surf’s up in the AR realm of Pokemon Go with the Water Festival: Beach Week Research Event starting off summer 2023! From the debut of Sandygast to a Global Challenge that offers more Catch Candy, there are tons of summertime fun for Trainers around the globe. During this event, Rainy Lures will last four times their standard duration, and players can participate in a two-part Timed Research questline for exclusive rewards. Let’s go over what you can earn from the Water Festival Timed Research.

The main attraction of the Pokemon Go Beach Week Timed Research are the two rewards: the Surfer Pose and a Sandygast Encounter. The Surfer Pose has your Trainer avatar pretend to balance on an imaginary surfboard, and the advantage of the Sandygast Encounter is that it’s guaranteed. Otherwise, Sandygast can only be obtained from One-Star Raids or as a reward for completing Field Research Tasks.

To start the Water Festival Timed Research questline in Pokemon Go, you must head into the in-game shop and purchase a ticket for 5 USD. Do note that free-to-play users cannot acquire this ticket with PokeCoins. Once you have bought or have been gifted the ticket, you have until June 12, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. local time to complete the following:

Water Festival: Beach Week Timed Research (1/2)

Pokemon Go Water Festival Research Tasks Rewards
Catch 10 Water-type Pokemon
  • ×1000 Stardust
Make 5 Nice Throws
  • ×10 Poke Balls
Transfer 5 Pokemon
  • ×5 Great Balls
Use 5 Berries to help catch Pokemon
  • ×10 Razz Berries
Completion Reward: ×1000 XP, a Clauncher Encounter, and ×1000 Stardust

Water Festival: Beach Week Timed Research (2/2)

Remember that once the event has concluded, Trainers will no longer be able to receive their exclusive rewards even if they purchased the Research Ticket. Accordingly, be sure to complete the Timed Research Tasks whenever you get the chance. If you’re involved in a busy lifestyle, whether at work or study, consider completing a task or two during breaks. That way, clearing all the quests in small chunks becomes much more manageable.

As of writing, you needn’t consider the Global Challenge as the active playerbase has already achieved the monumental goal of 300 million Nice Throws. As a result, everyone will be granted additional Candy and an increased chance of getting Candy XL when catching Pokemon. However, keep in mind that this challenge bonus only applies to Pokemon caught with Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws. Furthermore, you must be a Level 31 Trainer or higher to get Candy XL.

Sandygast and Palossand, its Evolution, debuted in the Pokemon Go Water Festival: Beach Week, but there are more unique pocket monsters featured during the event. For example, you can catch Lapras wearing a scarf as a Field Research Task Encounter, and it can be Shiny! Certain Field Research Tasks will also reward participants with Mega Energy for Blastoise and Swampert.

Alongside a list of One-Star and Three-Star Raid Bosses we’ve seen before, here are three region-exclusive pocket monsters you should catch in your country:

Five-Star Raid Boss Region
Uxie Asia-Pacific
Mesprit Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India
Azelf Americas and Greenland
