Much like its predecessors, Diablo 4 includes many Easter Eggs and references that give fans of the series something to look for while playing the game. Ranging from the infamous Secret Cow Level to NPCs named after other famous video game characters, the Diablo series offers a wide variety of hidden secrets. Although Diablo 4 is still relatively new, many keen and stalwart fans have already started finding more obvious Easter Eggs. Although nothing as huge as the Secret Cow Level has been found, more hidden Easter Eggs may begin to present themselves soon. For now, however, here are some of the best Diablo 4 Easter Eggs, references, and secrets you may have missed.
6. Finding An Easter Egg In Diablo 4’s Tomb
So far, a player on Reddit has found an Easter Egg in one of Diablo 4’s dungeons in the form of an Elite Enemy. The enemy called “Risen Tomb Raider” references the Crystal Dynamics game Rise of Tomb Raider. Although this may seem small, many of the games Eggs come in this form. These references are especially great since they could be so easy to miss. If players were to quickly glance over the pun names that some of these enemies have, most of the time, they won’t even notice everything the game has to offer.
5. Old Enemies And Locations
As was expected, Diablo 4 brings back many references and Easter Eggs from other games in the franchise. For example, players can fight Duriel, who returns from Diablo II during Act 6. Additionally, some locations, such as the Lair of the Witch and Hidden Camp from Diablo III, also make a reappearance. However, it is reported that not much is at the latter location. On top of this, some weapons have also been reintroduced, including Jazreth’s staff, the original Sorcerer from the first Diablo, and the Staff of Elemental Command.
4. A Hellraiser Easter Egg Is In Diablo 4
During Diablo 4, players can find this Easter Egg by doing a secret side quest in Yelesna. Here players will need to look for a man named Feydor, a pretty clear reference to the movie, Hellraiser. Players can also see the NPC say some Hellraiser-esque quotes, including lines directly from the film. This has made fans of both franchises extremely excited. This crossover makes perfect sense since the Diablo and Hellraiser universes aren’t too dissimilar.
3. Diablo 4 And D&D Easter Egg Crossover
Some players have reported finding a mini-boss named Wulfgar, which may be a reference or Easter Egg in Diablo 4, as some have already pointed out; the name of the enemy shares some similarities with Wulfgar, a barbarian hero from the Forgotten Realms and Dungeons and Dragons lore. Although the name may be calling back to a potential hireling name for barbarians in Diablo II, that name itself may be a reference to D&D itself. Both names may also be references to classic literature, and this Diablo 4 secret may be more of a coincidence.
2. Similar Character Order In Diablo 4
Another small Easter Egg that calls back to a previous Diablo game is the order that characters stand in when first introduced to the roster. In both Diablo 4 and Diablo II, the casts strike a similar pose around a campfire, standing in a line. Even when comparing the orders that the characters stand in, players were quick to notice that they were the same between both games. Although not many players pay too much attention to details like this, it shows that the developers haven’t forgotten the games that made Diablo a popular series in the first place.
1. Fighting the Butcher
The Butcher hails from Diablo I, where players have a random chance to encounter him in any dungeon, even at lower levels. Now, the Butcher once again makes an appearance functioning almost exactly as he did in the first Diablo game. Players must be cautious when exploring dungeons in Diablo 4, as this Easter Egg can attack at any moment. Players strong enough to defeat the Butcher can claim his cleaver for their own. In the end, although there haven’t been too many major Easter Egg discoveries thus far, seeing the Butcher reappear in Diablo 4 is a wonderful experience for any fan of the Diablo series.
