Link has been an ally of the Zora for a long time. In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you get to meet up with Sidon and help save his people from sludge. As you work to unlock the Water Temple for Clues to the Sky, you will receive a clue that you need the Mark of the King. Do you need to know how to get the Mark of the King? Here is how to get Kingโ€™s Scales in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.

Kingโ€™s Scales in Tears of the Kingdom are obtained by talking to King Dorephan. When you first arrive in Zoraโ€™s Domain, he will be away. Talking to the others will reveal he was investigating the sludge and never returned. Luckily, heโ€™s actually in a pretty easy to find spot.

To find King Dorephan, fast travel to the shrine at Miphaโ€™s Court. To the west is Lulu Lake, with an entrance to Ploymus Mountain Cave at the northern part of that lake. Jump down here to find the king recovering from injuries he sustained from a monster. Talk to him about the riddle to have him give you five Kingโ€™s Scales. This is how to get the Mark of the King in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. You will want to hang on to these until you get to Floating Scales Island in the sky. This land mass looks like a fish on your map. When you find the floating scale rock, fuse a Kingโ€™s Scale to an arrow and shoot it through to reveal the next stop along the way.

Where Is the Throne Room in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?

From what we have seen, the Clues to the Sky quest is the only reason you need to have Kingโ€™s Scales. We expect that Dorephan will give you five in case you mess up your first few shots, but really you should only need one. If you somehow lose all of them, you can just return to him and ask him for more.

Even after completing the Water Temple, you can get more Kingโ€™s Scales from King Dorephan in the throne room at Zoraโ€™s Domain. However, you shouldnโ€™t need them, as the item is pretty useless at this point. We have not found another quest that needs them, but there could be a side one we havenโ€™t done yet.

You can not sell Kingโ€™s Scales to shop vendors, and the item will instantly break after one hit when fused to a weapon. The Kingโ€™s Scales seem to have just that one use in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
