Directly after finishing “The Forgotten Relics” quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley, you’ll be instructed to speak with Merlin to prepare a spell. This particular spell will create a portal to the Dark Castle, an alternate version of the Dream Castle overtaken by the Forgotten. To stop their influence, you must confront the evil being in their realm. However, there is a series of locked door puzzles you must get through to complete the “The Dark Castle” quest in Dreamlight Valley.

To open the first-floor door of the Dark Castle, you’ll need to speak with the door to receive a hint. The sentient doorway will state that it will only let you pass when wearing “your wings and crown. There are five items ideal for this occasion:

  • Thorny Wings: Unlocked at Player Level 38
  • Onyx Crown: Unlocked at Player Level 40
  • Raven Wings: Obtained from the Villains’ Star Path (Event)
  • Cardboard Crown: Found in the west Wardrobe of the castle
  • Cardboard Wings: Found in the east Wardrobe of the castle

You’ll need to clear the Night Thorns on both sides of the entry hall to access the Wardrobes for your avatar. Be sure to have food ready for stamina restoration, as you’ll encounter many more thorn patches in the castle. Equip your crown and wings to pass through the first door.

The second door is named “Doorine” and will only open after being fed a quest-exclusive dish. The second floor will provide you with a table of ingredients, a cooking station, and a note hinting at the puzzle’s solution. Approach the table and gather the three items:

  • Dark Castle Lettuce
  • Dreamlight Salt
  • Thorn Sprout

As for the Dark Castle Garlic, Doorine dislikes “having bad breath;” therefore, leave that herb out. Combine the ingredients in the nearby pot to create a Night Thorn Sprout Salad. Feed it to the lion-headed Doorine to continue through the Dark Castle in Dreamlight Valley.

The third door of “The Dark Castle” quest is the easiest to solve but can also be the most confusing. The note beside the doorway states that you need the “blink of a mechanical eye” in Dreamlight Valley. This refers to your character’s camera. A quick selfie picture of the door will grant access to the fourth and final puzzle of this Story Quest of The Remembering.

Finally, opening the fourth-floor door of the Dark Castle involves collecting four Torches. Each Torch has a specific description that signifies where you are to place them beside the floor’s frozen well. The Torches are called: “Dawn, Noon, Dusk, and Night.” Looking at the inside of the well, you must place the Torches in the stands with the correct pictures of the time of day.
