The Killing Joke is one of Batmanโs most iconic stories written by Alan Moore in the 80s. Of all the DCย animated films based off of graphic novels and various storylines, it was a surprise that it took so longย for it to be made into a movie. Announced late last year, The Killing Joke was rumored to release digitally on July 23 and on DVD/Blu-ray on August 2 right around the time Suicide Squad comes toย theaters. Now that doesnโt seem to be the case.

It is now being rumored, though not confirmed, that movie will premiere on July 22 at Sanย Diego Comic Con. The digital release will follow on July 26ย while the DVD/Blu-ray release date seems toย have stayed the same. At the premiere, it is also rumored that a panel with the cast and crew will takeย place after The Killing Joke has screened. All this news seems to be rumor for nowย but expect someย confirmation soon if this turns out to be true.
The official synopsis of the film was also recently released:
โWitness a journey into the dark psyche of the Clown Prince of Crime,โ it dares. At the end, it invitesย fans and audience to โWitness the birth of a super villain, the fortitude of a hero and the punch line thatย will leave you speechless.โ
The Killing Joke changed Batmanโs mythos in a big way. Some saw it as one of many possible Jokerย origins of a failed comedian that turned to a life of crime and blamed Batman for what happened to himย in the end. We also saw some of the darkest moments such as Barbara Gordon AKA Batgirl getย paralyzed. Most of the live-action DC films since Batman Begins have made nods to the iconic comic inย some form or another.
The Killing Joke stars Mark Hamill as the Joker, Tara Strong as Harley Quinn, and Kevin Conroy asย Batman/Bruce Wayne. It is rated R.
