However, he immediately felt better when he stumbled upon Violet’s profile while scrolling through a Vietnamese dating app. The 48-year-old military veteran, who hails from New York, reached out to Violet, and before long, the two began calling each other daily.
After dating virtually for over two years, Riley felt it was time to take his relationship with the mom of two to the next level, making them the perfect 90 Day Fiancé franchise cast members. More importantly, the army vet didn’t seem short on love for his Vietnamese sweetheart. While speaking to producers during the season premiere, Riley gushed:
“Violet is … the sweetest jerk I’ve ever met in my life. She is hilarious. She’s very clever with her jokes. She’ll say something real slick. It’s like a joke grenade; it’ll take me, like, three seconds for it to explode.”
However, 90 Day Fiancé fans who felt their story looked too good to be true were quickly validated as several red flags have since emerged in the duo’s relationship. Let’s look at the three most significant red flags fans have noticed since the show premiered over a week ago.
1) Violet Isn’t Being Entirely Truthful
Although Riley is smitten by Violet, that doesn’t make him entirely blind to her faults. After speaking so highly about Violet, Riley left 90 Day Fiancé fans in doubt about his relationship when he later revealed that he didn’t believe Violet has been entirely truthful with him since they began dating.
Riley backed up his claims that Violet had been very economical with the truth whenever he asked about her divorce. The 48-year-old revealed that Violet deliberately hid facts from him regarding her divorce. She only told him she had finalized her divorce three months after he initially asked her. While Riley is adamant that she is still lying, he is giving her the benefit of the doubt and feels this might be due to miscommunication or cultural misunderstandings.
However, the enormity of Violet’s deception cannot be glossed over in another issue raised by Riley. In a conversation with friends, Riley revealed how Violet compelled him to delete his dating app profile. However, when he returned to check if she was still in it, he found that she was. Following the discovery, the pair hit a rough patch in their relationship but somehow managed to work things out.
2) Violet’s Manipulative Texts to Riley’s Father
Ahead of Riley’s trip to Vietnam to finally meet Violet, he decided to check in with his aged dad Colson, and that visit led to more discoveries that put a lot of question marks over Violet’s character. Riley revealed that he didn’t like to bother his dad so much about his private life. However, he was stunned when his dad told him Violet had been texting him whenever they quarreled. She messaged Riley’s dad 150 times, and most messages were unflattering. One of the first texts Riley read out loud said:
“I knew your son doesn’t love me. The time we are together, he just loves [himself]. He never knows how true love is. So he forever will be alone.”
Riley’s dad stayed silent about the texts to avoid getting involved and causing further conflict. Considering his son’s imminent travel plans, he addressed the issue to ensure he knew what to expect from Violet. Riley was visibly upset by Violet’s texts to his dad. He claimed she sent the texts during rough patches and accused her of trying to take advantage of his dad to manipulate him.
3) 90 Day Fiancé’s Riley Has Deep Trust Issues
From the evidence of things thus far, Violet is a piece of work that Riley needs to deal with. The 48-year-old reality star hasn’t always been dealt a fair hand regarding love. This has only made him develop some deep-rooted trust issues. Unfortunately, Violet’s dishonesty is only exacerbating these. His first ex-girlfriend left him to be with one of his friends. The second woman he dated moved to another city without saying a word and never returned. These situations have left Riley vulnerable, and his insecurities have already started appearing on the show. During 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 6 episode 2, Riley shocked everyone when he contacted a private investigator to gather more information about Violet. The PI didn’t waste any time discovering Violet was still on the dating app. However, she was using a different name.
Although the PI provided some helpful information, this is not a healthy road for Riley to travel down. His troubled relationship history will always leave him with doubts. Riley hiring a private investigator to track Violet is a significant red flag in itself. Riley should abandon Vietnam plans and cease communication with Violet to protect his mental health.
