XBOX's Project Scorpio, coming fall 2017

Dropping a big piece of news and hardware at the end of their E3 press conference, XBOX unveiled their plans, and a release date for Project Scorpio.

After a number of developers and XBOX engineers spoke of “the world’s most powerful console,” XBOX Chief Phil Spencer returned to the stage to confirm Project Scorpio. According to the talking heads in the trailer (below), it’s the console that developers wanted, and the one with no boundaries or limitations.

While we don’t know too much about it just yet, we do know that it will be available next year (2017), and is slated for a fall release. Spencer also said that Project Scorpio will not only be their next console, it will not create a break in the XBOX or XBOX One S iterations. In other words, all XBOX games will work across all three of these consoles. No more “exclusives” throughout the XBOX family, just straight play through all hardware.

The powerful machine will output 4K resolution, eight CPU cores, house a monster 6-TFLOPS (Teraflops) of GPU power, and will be VR ready out of the box. As the engineers and XBOX employees say in the trailer, “it’s the we heard you console.”
