New protagonist Marcus Holloway started out by taking a leisurely stroll through the streets of San Fransisco – the new setting for the series. But things heated up quickly as he stole a car and took off to meet a hacker friend. He was tasked with infiltrating a tech mogul’s apartment, which was easier said than done.
The infiltration showed off the game’s new hacking system, which allows players to interact with technology in the environment in new and exciting ways. Marcus took control of a small ariel drone to scout out the area and get a lay of the land before going in.
The new parkour system vastly improves on the stealth of the first game. Player’s have much more vertical options when they sneak around environments and can hack vents and alarm systems to create distractions. The gameplay also shows off the ranged stealth options such as throwing a new remote electrical weapon called the Zapper.
The demo highlighted the improved hacking and stealth mechanics as well as the depth of the world. It is clear that Ubisoft is intent on improving on all of the shortcomings of the first title. The overall feel and mechanics of the world have been greatly improved upon and look much more enticing. You can watch the full gameplay demo below.
