Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a continuation of the FF7 Remake Project, and fans are dying to know how many more pieces the project will have. The FF7 Remake Project is part of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, a sub-franchise from the main Final Fantasy series. The Compilation only includes projects associated with FF7, whereas the Remake Project centers on the remakes of the original title. With part one of the Remake Project out, how many more features should fans expect?

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth serves as the follow-up to Final Fantasy 7 Remake, continuing the adventures of Cloud Strife and his companions. Square Enix confirmed Rebirth is the middle game of the FF7 Remake Project, revealing the project will be a trilogy.

The company has yet to reveal the title of the third game in the trilogy. But the third game will close out the Remake’s storyline. While the main FF7 Remake Project primarily focuses on the trilogy of games, other titles, and media have been released relating to the project.

The First Soldier and Ever Crisis are mobile titles related to the Remake. Crisis Core -Final Fantasy 7- Reunion is a remaster of Crisis Core that reuses the engine from the FF7 Remake.

Square Enix published Trace of Two Pasts as a tie-in to the FF7 Remake Project. The novel features two stories based on Aerith and Tifa, respectively.

The Story So Far in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Project

The FF7 Remake Project covers the same plot thread as the original PlayStation One game. However, the project is making drastic changes to the story that will greatly subvert the original narrative.

Remake only covers the story in Midgar. Midgar only served as the game’s opening act in the original Final Fantasy 7 title before moving on to the whole world. The Remake expands the narrative from the original game, adding more details and new characters.

Both the original and Remake covers Cloud joining the terrorist organization Avalanche. The major story beats from the original game are in the Remake. That includes Cloud meeting Aerith, Sector 7 plate collapsing, storming Shinra Headquarters, and escaping from Midgar.

The Remake includes more missions and side quests, plus extra details of supporting characters. Sephiroth also has more of a presence in the Remake than in the original game. Rebirth starts where Remake left off, with the main characters can freely roam the full world outside of Midgar.
