Family plans are the most economical option in subscription services. Even though it’s slowly getting phased out, Netflix was the pioneer of that advantage, and millions of people have used it so far. Then we’ve also seen family plans on other subscription services such as Spotify Premium or iCloud. The truth is that family plans are economical options for more than four people’s use, but they are less profitable for companies.
Microsoft is probably the number one company using the calculator lately because its financial teams keep arguing how Game Pass is profitable. Even though there are issues with money, Microsoft started a test program for Game Pass Family Plan a few months ago. We wondered what would happen to it after the price rises, but the bad news has already arrived.
Microsoft Ends Game Pass Family Plan
That program was started a few months ago and suddenly appeared on Game Pass’s subscription options. It contains the benefits of Game Pass Ultimate, allowing you to share them with five friends. That’s right; it’s both for your family and friends. Some services want you only to share the plan with the people in your house, but this plan allows it to be shared with anybody. For example, Spotify does that and asks users for their addresses while joining the plan.
Xbox has already stopped accepting new subscribers, and the existing subscribers will say goodbye on August 15th. They will also get a Game Pass offer as a gift for attending the program. It’s also worth noting that the company had shared that it’s excited about the new family plan. We’re unsure what the test’s end means for the process, but let’s hope it comes back someday. We heard a lot of complaints about the recent price raises, but a family plan offer could make Game Pass affordable again for some.
