In a recent chat with CNN’s Chris Wallace, Hawn spoke candidly about why she and her partner were yet to say “I do.” The blonde Hollywood staple began the conversation by responding to the “Why aren’t the two of you married?” question Wallace asked. But rather than give a straightforward answer, Hawn replied with a rhetorical question, thus, “Why should we be? Isn’t that a better question?”
The Private Benjamin actress then explained their reason for not getting married. Hawn noted that it was partly because she and Russell knew what divorce felt like. According to the star, whenever a marriage didn’t work out, it ended up being ugly and a big business. The 77-year-old also talked about the freedom she experienced in her romance. Hawn made it clear that she liked having the choice of being in a relationship. According to the icon, it felt great to wake up every morning and decide if she still wanted to date Russell.
Overall, Hawn and Russell’s relationship not progressing into marriage was due to the independence they enjoyed. For the actress, having an independent mindset was important as she and Russell could hold on to themselves.
Inside Hawn and Russell’s Failed Marriages
Although Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell seem to be a perfect couple, the pair have experienced relationship woes. Before they started dating, Russell was married to Season Hubley from 1979 to 1983. On the other hand, Hawn experienced divorce twice. She tied the knot with director Gus Trikonis in 1969. However, after a few years, their union ended in 1976. That same year, Hawn married musician Bill Hudson, with whom she shares two children, Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson. Sadly, the former couple’s marriage lasted only six years, ending in 1982.
The following year, Hawn and Russell reconnected after their first meeting on the set of the 1968 musical The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band. Hawn and Russell’s relationship progressed, and in 1986, they welcomed their son, Wyatt Russell. Since then, it has been nothing short of bliss for the couple.
