A new Punisher is about to make their mark in the Marvel Universe. During Comic Con, Marvel revealed Frank Castle’s successor who will don the moniker. It is former SHIELD agent Joe Garrison who is about to wage a one-man war as the Punisher. This new era of the Marvel hero comes from the creative team of David Pepose and Dave Wachter. Unfortunately, details are scarce on what spurs Garrison to become the vigilante.
New Punisher, Same War
While we don’t know what puts the former SHIELD agent on the path of vengeance, we know he is using some of his predecessor’s tactics. The teaser image used for the announcement shows Garrison’s Punisher rocking a couple tough-looking guns. He is also decked out in an outfit similar to the recently redesigned one Castle used. It seems the name of the Punisher comes with a few guarantees, like large weaponry and a sinister-looking outfit.
Hardcore Punisher fans don’t need to worry that this new vigilante will be too different from Castle. Writer David Pepose shares that even though the man behind the name is different, “the punishment remains the same.” Plus, he likens Garrison’s Punisher to the “Danny Ketch to Frank’s Johnny Blaze.”
An Ongoing Series
Joe Garrison’s turn as the Punisher is getting its own ongoing series. With Frank Castle becoming a no-show in the Marvel Universe, someone must pick up the slack. Especially with new threats emerging to terrorize the innocent. While this new Punisher is eager to dole out justice from the shadow, why is Garrison doing it in the first place? What could bring the retired Black Ops back into the fold? Can he survive the onslaught that the criminals are waiting to throw his way? We will find out when a new Punisher era kicks off on November 8.
