The latest spin-off of The Bachelor is giving some love to everyone in their golden years. In a teaser for Golden Bachelor, ABC has introduced audiences to Gerry Turner, the 71-year-old man who’s looking for another shot at love and someone to spend the rest of his life with. Turner will be the center of ABC’s latest unscripted series as twenty women arrive at the Golden Bachelor mansion, each with a long and storied life behind them. Ultimately, Gerry Turner and every woman in the mansion want to answer the same question: will Golden Bachelor give them a second chance at love?
The idea behind The Golden Bachelor isn’t a new one. ABC first put out a senior citizens-only casting call in early 2020, but the pandemic unfortunately delayed the show. The general format of Golden Bachelor will be similar to that of The Bachelor, which is currently airing its 27th season: the only difference is that this time, all twenty women being invited to the mansion are 65 or older. According to the official series description, “The women arriving at the mansion have a lifetime of experience, living through love, loss and laughter, hoping for a spark that ignites a future full of endless possibilities.”
‘The Golden Bachelor’ Teaser Gives Off Classy, Refined Vibes
As for Gerry Turner himself, the first Golden Bachelor is 71 years old and a retired restaurateur. He’s got a dream lake house in Indiana and spends his time like a lot of other dads and granddads: namely, hosting barbeques, playing pickleball, going four-wheeling, and cheering on his favorite sports teams. Turner married his high school sweetheart, Toni, in 1974, and the couple had two daughters, Angie and Jenny. Unfortunately, Toni passed away in 2017 after 43 years of marriage. Now, with the support of his daughters and granddaughters Charlee and Payton, Gerry Turner is giving love another shot.
In the new teaser for The Golden Bachelor, audiences are told that “some things get better with age” and “good things take time – and this romance is worth the wait.” Overall, the show seems to be marketing itself as a refined, classy sort of venture, with emphasis on things like aged cheeses, fine wines and shared life experiences. Given the premise of The Golden Bachelor, it’s hard to imagine it turning into a debaucherous, booze-filled affair like a lot of other reality TV shows can. Ultimately, we’ll have to wait and see what kind of drama unfolds within the walls of The Golden Bachelor mansion.
The Golden Bachelor will be available this fall on ABC and Hulu.
