So many games have massive worlds that we can either experience alone or with someone else. One of the biggest RPGs of the year is Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3, and many who prefer to play with friends are wondering whether it will have split-screen co-op. To have the ultimate Dungeons & Dragons experience, you may want to have someone there by your side. As the game has been in Early Access for some time and will have its official launch this week, we will explain the multiplayer situation so you have a clear idea of how you can play on launch day, this Thursday, August 3.

During Early Access, Baldur’s Gate 3 did not have split-screen co-op. When BG3 releases, split-screen co-op will arrive alongside it, the developer confirmed in a post on Steam last month that cleared the air about multiplayer, both on the couch and online. You can have up to four players in your party when playing online. When playing split-screen, you can have extra friends alongside you.

No matter how you experience the multiplayer, the game will let you jump in immediately with the people in your life. Before starting a campaign, your friends can join you to create your characters simultaneously. If you select an Origin character, only one can be chosen per player, but enough are available if everyone wants to go down this route. Whether you have a Baldur’s Gate session planned or not, your friends can join you at any time when you are playing.

Playing Baldur’s Gate 3 co-op, whether split-screen or online, the game has to make certain adjustments for having people in your party. You will share certain information, like quest details, Inspiration points (the points used to reroll when failing a check), Journal notes, recipes, and minimap discoveries. Inventories will be shared by default, but you can change that in the options. You can make decisions together as some scenes are public, meaning your party can listen in on the conversation and vote on a response. Some scenes will be private, but you can still make it viewable by the rest of your party.
