This October, Captain America is transforming once again into Capwolf for Capwolf & The Howling Commandos. The limited series comes from writer Stephanie Phillips and artist Carlos Magno. The four-issue series brings back the werewolf Captain America from Mark Gruenwald and Rik Levins’ “Man and Wolf” arc. This time, Steve Rogers finds himself “wolfing out” while on a World War II mission with the Howling Commandos. Now, Marvel is teasing this new lycanthropic adventure with a look at the covers for the first two issues.
Captain America Transforms
This new limited series brings some horror elements to a classic wartime Captain America story. What begins as your everyday World War II mission soon diverges into a ferocious adventure for everyone’s favorite red, white, and blue hero. Thankfully, when Rogers finds himself furrier than normal, his closest allies are there to help. Nick Fury and the Howling Commandos are on hand to follow Capwolf into what may be his wildest adventure yet.
Fury and the Commandos help Capwolf take down some Nazi cultists. These villains are attempting to use some supernatural elements to win World War II. However, the Commandos are a bit skeptical about these “supernatural forces” Cap claims. So, he has to deal with their skepticism while also trying to control the wolf within. As Captain America transforms, his closest allies must put aside their hesitation to help both friend and country.
What to Expect From the New Capwolf Series
Speaking to AiPT, writer Stephanie Phillips shared that Capwolf & The Howling Commandos is the kind of story they have always wanted to do at Marvel. This is because it blends their love of historical fiction with the lore of the Marvel Universe and its inhabitants. They also assured fans that while the limited series may be a war story, it is also so much more. It blends horror with romance and provides some new characters to get to know. Plus, artist Carlos Magno has done a fantastic job with the art for the series.
