GTA V isn’t typically the kind of video game that people choose to make a statement in. However, one of the game’s newest mods intends to show something other than violence. The mod “Los Santos Pride” is partially designed to honor the victims of the recent shooting in an Orlando nightclub. The streets of Los Santos are decked out in a virtual gay pride march.

Swedish agency Garbergs helped to bring about “Los Santos Pride.” Garbergs teamed up with several modders – JulioNiB, 8-Bit Bastard, TheFriedTurkey, Merfish, and TheNathanNS. Apparently, the idea for this virtual parade came about a while ago. The group didn’t yet have the technical means to implement it, until recently. Stockholm Pride, the largest LGBT festival in Scandinavia, backed the collaboration. GTA V‘s virtual parade releases just before the real Stockholm Pride march at the end of July.

The mod is free to download for PC players (you can find it here). Keeping along with the theme of love over hate, the Los Santos parade allows players to only interact in non-violent, non-aggressive ways. Any characters taking part in the virtual march cannot be killed. In a game that touts a somewhat ridiculous amount of violence and destruction, it is interesting to see GTA V with a mod that purposefully doesn’t want players to follow these themes.
