A police officer in Houston, Texas, has been relieved of duty after an alleged video she posted online showed her going on a slur-filled, racist rant. The backlash was intense, and the local police department is receiving calls for her definitive firing.
The rant was shared online by Robbie Harvey. He is known for exposing such infuriating incidents, and this was no exception. While the clip only has 23,400 views, 2,453 likes, and 180 comments, the story has gone viral due to the public outcry that followed.
The female cop, identified as Ashley Gonzalez, was seen in the clip using racial slurs multiple times. She was sitting in her car and talking directly to the camera, with the clip showing her expressing hostility toward Black people, with her even saying she “hates” them.
“The amount of times I will always and forever say that I [expletive] hate [racial slur]. I [expletive] hate you all,” the woman said.
During her recorded meltdown, the Texas woman then recounted how, according to her, someone had attempted to steal her wallet.
“Y’all don’t know how good it felt to say [racial slur] out loud,” she said, as shown in the clip shared by Grizzy’s Hood News. “Oh my God, I felt like I was back in the Marine Corps. […] I felt like the world just stopped.”
As reported by Click2Houston, Gonzalez served in the United States Marine Corps from 2019 to 2023. Furthermore, she became a Houston police officer in 2024.
After the video surfaced and became viral, the Houston Police Department (HPD) confirmed to multiple media outlets that Ashley Gonzales was relieved of duty pending an investigation. For the time being, she is still employed by the HPD. According to KHOU, she was ordered to hand in her weapon and badge.
Backlash
The video sparked multiple heated responses online. Most viewers condemned Ashley’s alleged racist rant. One viewer commented, “I hope the black lady sees this video and sues her. Absolutely sickening.” Another one said, “This is why I will never support others but my people. We are really out here by ourselves.”
Many others reacted to the Houston Police Officers’ Union condemning her alleged actions. One viewer commented, “I appreciate when one of your officers is in the wrong, and you don’t support their behavior.” Another netizen said, “This is the proper answer.“
Rants such as the one described above often go viral due to the sheer amount of pushback and public outcry that follows. Since this incident allegedly involves a police officer, the backlash is, understandably, way bigger.
It is unclear how long the HPD’s investigation will take. If the outcome is unfavorable toward the Texas cop, she could be fired for good, never to be rehired again, KHOU reported.
