Dead by Daylight was already confirmed to get an Alien crossover later this month, but now, we have confirmation that with that crossover comes the addition of Ripley to the character roster. Fan reaction to the reveal has been mixed, which has happened on occasion when a new character enters the game. Dead by Daylight has been on a roll lately. With the recent bizarre addition of Nicolas Cage to its roster, and regardless of the fan reaction, Ripley is a no-brainer as a character in the long-running, multiplayer horror game.
Why Are Fans Upset With Dead by Daylight’s Ripley Reveal?
Whenever a character reveal like that of the Alien franchise’s Ripley happens in Dead by Daylight, the community immediately makes its voice known. With the Ripley reveal, the overwhelming feeling is that the character model for Ripley is all wrong. They have a point considering the lack of resemblance to Sigourney Weaver. It seems that Behavior Interactive was unable to get the rights for the sci-fi horror icon, and this is the result. The issue is even more glaring considering how incredibly accurate Nicolas Cage’s character model is.
User Eagle56 said, “Looks Like a Sim Version of Her,” Noting the overly cartoony look that she seems to have compared to other survivors in the game.
To pour salt on the wound, Fortnite recently got their own Ripley along with the right to use Sigourney Weaver’s likeness. User Aabramo21 says “I get that things can be difficult with likeness and the legality side of it. But Fortnite and Alien: Isolation got her likeness.”
Other users, such as TrollAndaHalf are coping with the reveal not being exactly what they were looking for, saying “I assume they didn’t get the likeness, but can they reduce the eye size? Or not make them so OPEN; seriously, they are always wide open; it’s like she injected caffeine.”
While many are angry at the inaccuracies of the Ripley character, some are happy with what they got considering the circumstances, like user Djackdau who said, “She looks like the best they could do without licensing Weaver’s likeness, and I’m happy enough with it.”
How Ripley and the Xenomorph will function in the game remains to be seen, but seeing as Dead by Daylight has a host of unique abilities for its already impressively varied cast, they should fit in nicely. At the end of the day, it matters most how characters feel to play as in Dead by Daylight, as you’re looking at the back of their head the majority of the time anyway. If Behavior Interactive gives Ripley some fun tools to use, the community will be satisfied regardless of the character model.
Dead by Daylight is available now on PS4, PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Android, IOS, Google Stadia, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
