Neil Gaiman is a staple author of the fantasy and weird fiction scene and is known to many a nerd as the genius behind the classic graphic novel series Sandman, as well as the very well received children’s book and film Coraline. But to those of us with a literary inclination Neil Gaiman is first and foremost and amazing writer and now one of his most beloved novels American Gods are getting made into a TV series.
The picture seen here is the first still we have been shown from the series. The photo features Technical Boy, one of the new Gods battling it out for supremacy with the Gods of old. As the producers of the show have stated, in the original work Technical Boy was a representation of the power of technology over us, but the book was released in 2001 and technology has really changed quite a bit since then. So the developers decided to change Technical Boy accordingly:
“Technology has gone from something that was the province of the young to something ubiquitous and in your pocket, and the aesthetics of that have changed. Technology very much has a tie into fashion, which goes in cycles and changes overnight. What’s in fashion, technologically, and what’s in fashion, in fashion, are minute to minute and you can’t possibly keep up. And we look to the Technical Boy to be someone who’s very much a victim of both. The idea of feeling like you have to feed the beast of what’s new and what’s fresh is very much in his mind.”
American Gods is aiming for a 2017 release on Starz.
