It is the week of spoilers, apparently. A couple of days ago, leaked information regarding the PlayStation 4 NEO surfaced online, detailing the finer points of the upcoming system as well as its expected release date. Now, a new trailer for the upcoming game No Man’s Sky has made its way online a few days ahead of schedule. It is officially Christmas in July.
After several delays and high levels of unwavering excitement from gamers, No Man’s Sky is finally being released in a few short weeks on August 9, 2016, in North America. To prepare for the release, the indie developer behind No Man’s Sky, Hello Games, is releasing a four-part video series called “Guides to the Galaxy” which offers more insight into the world of this expansive game. The first video in this series is entitled “Explore”, and it was released last week.

No Man’s Sky boasts 18 quintillion planets, which essentially means that my grandchildren’s grandchildren will have not uncovered everything this game has to offer. The “Explore” video, however, nicely labels this unconquerable feat as “limitless variety”. These worlds are generated as you play, with each planet having its own unique look, sound, and species of animals. In the video, we are taken through through some of these worlds, and we quickly get scenes of snow-covered landscapes, sunny planes where dinosaurs roam, and of course an immeasurable galaxy littered with stars. The game is ambitious and large in scope, which is why it came as a surprise when Hello Games announced that No Man’s Sky would only be 6GB of disc space, the majority of which is audio. Impressive is not a descriptive enough word. Future videos in this “Guides to the Galaxy” series are titled “Fight,” “Trade,” and “Survive,” each of which will show off those specific elements from the game much like “Explore” did.
“Fight”is the second video in the series, and it was not supposed to be released until next week. Thanks to the beauty of leaked information, however, the trailer is now online. This video details how combat will work in No Man’s Sky, (a question that I have had for quite some time now), and it promises “epic space battles”. The two biggest forms of combat happen in space and on a planet as you fight to survive, ‘from the surface to the stars.’ Following the leak, PlayStation has officially released the video.
