Sony has filed a new trademark for Astro Bot, which strongly suggests that the adorable PlayStation mascot will be sticking around for years to come. Astro Bot has become synonymous with the PlayStation brand at this stage and has won over gamers around the world thanks to the genuinely brilliant Astro’s Playroom, which launched with the PS5. If these new trademarks are anything to go by, the future is looking bright for our favorite little bot.

Two Astro Bot trademarks were uncovered by Gematsu and are listed as belonging to Sony Interactive Entertainment. The two trademarks are simply the name of the character with no potential hints as to what Sony could be planning for their mascot. Given that they were both filed on August 25, we can assume that something is being cooked up for the little robot.

At the very least, it’s guaranteed that Astro Bot is going to have a significant presence on PlayStation consoles going forward. It’s possible that a new Astro Bot game could be lined up for PSVR 2. After all, the mascot first appeared on the original PSVR, so seeing him make his grand return on a next-gen VR title is feasible. On the other hand, there might not be anything immediately lined up. The Astro Bot trademark could have simply been filed by Sony for any future projects that enter development.

Astrobot first appeared in a relatively minor role in Playroom VR’s Bot Rescue mini-game. The robot would go on to capture the hearts of PlayStation owners and would eventually star in his own spin-off title Astro Bot Rescue Mission.

It was the PlayStation 5 that introduced an explosion in popularity for the console’s mascot. Astro’s Playroom is genuinely considered to be one of the strongest exclusive titles for PS5. The game is beloved by lifelong fans for its unfiltered adoration of PlayStation’s legacy and its riveting level design.

One thing seems certain with the trademark and that is that Astro Bot is set to have a major place in the hearts of PlayStation fans and the consoles themselves for a long time to come.
