Moving around a vast open-world game in little time is vital for many players, and thankfully the fast travel system in Starfield helps us do just that. There is plenty to get excited about in the game, but one aspect that everyone is talking about is the sheer size of it all. With numerous planets and cities to explore, it’s easy to find yourself lost in Starfield in the best of ways. Still, that doesn’t mean everyone wants to wander all the time. That can take hours. So, it pays to figure out the fast travel system as soon as possible.

Can You Fast Travel in Starfield?

Yes, you can fast travel in Starfield. Seeing that the main settlement New Atlantis requires a subway system to get around, it’s clear that exploring everything on foot is not feasible. Of course, unless you’re willing to walk around for hours or jump around with those cool jetpacks. The world of Starfield is stunning enough that you’ll have a good view.

Still, like other Bethesda games, you can get around the world in seconds with the fast travel design. There are two ways you can fast travel in Starfield:

  • Surface map
  • Starmap

In Starfield, you can only use the fast travel feature to areas you have discovered. Once an area is known, getting around the map quickly is a much smoother experience.

How to Surface Map Fast Travel in Starfield

When you open your surface map, find the discovered location you want to visit and select the action button or key. On Xbox, this button is typically “A” while you may press the “E” key for PC.

After you confirm that you want to fast travel to this Starfield location, you’ll head that way after a brief loading period. Note that fast travel via the surface map will only move you. Your ship will not follow. You can fast travel to your ship by pressing “Y” or the “Space” key.

Once you open the starmap, you can fast travel within the planet you’re on or to a different spot on another planet. It works the same as traveling with the surface map. The one major difference is that your ship will go with you when you use the starmap method.

If you want to fast travel in Starfield to a specific space location, your character is transferred automatically back to the ship. Again, this only works when you travel to discovered locations.
