It’s hard to resist the urge to hoard valuables and resources while exploring the massive intergalactic world of Starfield. For instance, we had both our MC’s pockets and Vasco’s inventory filled within the first two hours of our adventure. Fortunately, the Frontier offers a Cargo Hold where we can store our excessive stockpile of treasures. However, even this storage unit will eventually be loaded to the max. Fortunately, there is an easy way to increase our ship’s Cargo size in Starfield.

After you arrive in New Atlantis for the first time, speaking to the Ship Services Technician is one of your first tutorial objectives. This individual provides a wide variety of spacecraft-related services, including repairs, ship modification, and even other vessels for sale. One of the modifications they offer is the ability to upgrade your ship’s Cargo size in Starfield by featuring several Cargo Hold variations for purchase.

To access the purchasable offerings for your Cargo Hold in Starfield, complete the following steps:

  1. Approach the Ship Services Technician in New Atlantis or any other major city.
  2. Select the dialogue option, “I’d like to view and modify my ships.”
  3. Press X on Xbox or B on PC to enter the Ship Builder menu.
  4. Next, choose “Add,” and a dropdown menu of different ship parts should appear.
  5. Scroll to the side past Bays to reach Cargo, which offers a selection of Spaceship Cargo Modules to upgrade your ship’s inventory space.
  6. Purchase one to replace your ship’s current Cargo Hold to increase your Cargo size in Starfield.

An important detail to note when choosing Cargo Holds for your spacecraft is that a larger inventory has disadvantages to other stats. Specifically, your ship will receive a boost to its Hull and Cargo but suffer a decrease in its Jump Range and Mobility due to the Mass increase. Those looking to optimize their ship’s stats should keep this in mind when purchasing Cargo Holds or any other parts from the Ship Services Technician.
