The latest Star Wars series to come to Disney Plus, Ahsoka, might have left you confused after the twist at the end of the fourth episode, Part Four: Fallen Jedi. The series follows Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) and Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) as they attempt to prevent the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) and try to find the lost Ezra Bridger in the process. The latest episode of the series ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger, so let’s explain what happened in the ending of Ahsoka episode four, and be warned spoilers will follow this point.
What Happened to Ahsoka at the End of Episode 4?
Part Four: Fallen Jedi revolves around Ahsoka and Sabine trying to steal or destroy the map that Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson), Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno), and Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) are using to Hyperjump to Thrawn’s location. The pair split up, with Sabine fighting Shin, and Ahsoka finding the map and fighting Baylan. She manages to hold her own against Baylan, who fights quite aggressively to keep her from the map. Ahsoka finally distracts him long enough to take the map from the pedestal, stopping the upload of its coordinates, only for it to burn her hand.
Sabine catches up to the dueling pair but with Ahsoka wounded from the burn Baylan has her on the ropes. She tells Sabine to destroy the map, but because of her connection to Ezra she hesitates, and Baylan sends Ahsoka into the waters below. Sabine assumes that Ahsoka is killed and wants to see Ezra so she agrees to go with Baylan and the rest of Thrawn’s followers under the condition that she won’t be harmed. As they all Hyperjump to Thrawn’s location, Hera and the Pheonix Squadron arrive, but they’re too late.
At the very end of the episode, Ahsoka wakes up. At first, you might have thought that she was near the water she fell into. But, when she comes to it’s obvious that she is somewhere else. Before we can think about it she hears the voice of Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), her old Master (even though he was not granted the rank). With Anakin dead at the time of Ahsoka, it’s clear that his presence is tied to the location that Ahsoka is currently in. So where is she, and why is Anakin Skywalker with her?
What Is the World Between Worlds?
Fans of Star Wars Rebels would recognize the location that Ahsoka is in at the end of episode four as the World Between Worlds. This location first appeared in Rebels with Ezra Bridger venturing into it in the season four episode A World Between Worlds. Also called the Vergence Scatter, it is a realm inside the Force that connects time and space, allowing those who access it to journey to the past and the future. During Ezra’s time in the World Between Worlds, he heard the voices of multiple Star Wars characters, including Yoda, Kanan Jarrus, and Leia Organa.
But, Ezra accessed the World Between Worlds through the Jedi Temple on Lothal. Ahsoka was not on Lothal in episode four, she was on Seatos. So, how did Ahsoka end up in the World Between Worlds? Well, Ahsoka has been there before. In Rebels, Ezra witnessed Ahsoka’s near defeat on Malachor at the hands of Darth Vader. He managed to pull her out of a portal, saving her life. As it seemed like Baylan killed Ahsoka, someone could have saved her life once again, by bringing her into the World Between Worlds. But who could it have been?
With Anakin waiting for her, it seemed like he was the one to pull her from the water. But, it’s unclear whether or not he is a Force ghost. Like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and Qui-Gon Jinn, Anakin Skywalker is also able to appear as a Force ghost. But, we haven’t yet seen a Force ghost save someone’s life like this. It seems like a major plot hole if every death in the Star Wars universe could be circumvented by a deceased Jedi. There’s always the possibility that it wasn’t Anakin who saved Ahsoka, but then who was it?
Did Anakin or Luke Skywalker Pull Ahsoka into the World Between Worlds?
It makes sense that we start with the most obvious character, that it was Ezra Bridger himself who saved Ahsoka. After all, he has done it before. Eman Esfandi plays Ezra in Ahsoka, and with Sabine traveling on the Eye of Sion, it seems like we are going to see him in the flesh next episode. He managed to get to the World Between Worlds before, and there’s a chance that he worked out how to get there again after disappearing with Thrawn at the end of Rebels.
We could also see the return of Luke Skywalker, with the reveal that he was the one who saved Ahsoka. That would probably be way too much fan service, having Luke interact with a younger version of his father. Speaking of the younger version of his father, there’s a chance that it could just be Anakin from The Clone Wars who managed to enter the World Between Worlds himself. That would explain why they seemingly digitally de-aged Hayden Christensen, as opposed to just letting him age as he would have normally in the Star Wars timeline.
There could be no other being present, and it was actually Anakin’s Force ghost or at least a version of it that exists in the World Between Worlds that saved Ahsoka. With episode four ending on a cliffhanger, we should get answers when the fifth episode comes to Disney Plus next Tuesday. You can watch Ahsoka on Disney Plus now.
